Alternatives to Cursor
Cursor puts an AI agent inside a VS Code-style editor and works very well. If you're looking for alternatives, it's usually because of price, wanting to work in the terminal, or needing more extensibility.

Why people look for alternatives to Cursor
- You want to automate the agent from scripts or CI, not just from the UI.
- You're looking for extensibility through skills, subagents and MCP.
- You'd rather not switch editors or migrate your setup.
- The cost of another editor subscription doesn't add up.

My recommendation
If your problem is extensibility and repeatability, Claude Code: you call it from wherever you want and standardize the work with skills. If it's just price or not wanting to leave your editor, VS Code with the AI extension you prefer. Codex CLI if you're already on OpenAI. Cursor is still the most comfortable option if you value having everything in one window.
